Fall activities are in full swing over at the Endlessly Elated headquarters and although, I hate to see summer go, between fall fashion and home entertaining, I can’t say I’m too upset. So, with fall in mind I thought I’d share my go-to items for the perfect cheese platter. Wine selection and all!
Sooo…let’s get to it!
Begin by switching over from the crisp, white wines of summer to the more full body reds that the fall season requires. Enter my latest obsession, Louis Jadot’s Beaujolais-Villages. I recently partnered up with them and I must say that I found some fantastic wines. This particular red has hints of ripe, red berries and is semi-sweet in nature. It pairs perfectly with light hors d’ oeuvres like mild cheeses. So, a fall cheese plate is the perfect option.
To build your very own, start by choosing three mild cheeses. My go-to choices are mild Cheddar, Manchego and Gouda—all, which I picked up at Whole Foods but can certainly be found at your local supermarket. These cheeses are rich in flavor but won’t over power the wine. On the contrary, they enhance the flavor beautifully! Continue by adding pitless green olives, seedless red grapes, sweet figs (they’re in season), spicy salami, almonds for crunch, water crackers (I used Carr’s Table Water Crackers) and rustic bread sticks (I bought Mario Fongo breadsticks at Whole Foods). These accompaniments really capture the season’s flavors.
Hostess Tip: Get pitless olives and seedless grapes so that your guests don’t have to awkwardly remove the pits/seeds from their mouths onto a napkin or plate. Easier for guests to eat and enjoy!
Place all of these items on a wooden cutting board and voilà you’ve got yourself one fabulous fall cheese platter! Lastly, bring out your desired red wine glasses—mine are Crate and Barrel’s Camille Wine Glasses; I’m totally obsessed. Pop that cork right off that bottle of wine and enjoy!
This combo will definitely have you singing its praises! Happy entertaining, all!
Until next time.
